Sharks find themselves languishing in 15th place for goals conceded, having let in 33 goals after 23 games.

Kariobangi Sharks head coach William Muluya says his team must improve defensively in order to better their chances of becoming a more competitive team.

Although Sharks have found no problems finding the back of the net, they have found it hard to keep out the goals. So far, they top the scoring charts in the league with 39 goals, but find themselves languishing in 15th place for goals conceded.

“I need to push them mentally to keep their concentration levels up,” he said.

Muluya however, defended his decision not to sign defensive reinforcements to help fix the porous nature of his team, saying he has internal solutions to help abate the problem.

“I did not make any reinforcements in the (recently closed) window,” he said, “ I have seen a couple of players from the youth team who will hopefully justify my decision,” he added.

“They are two of them. I will push them and I believe they will help us out.”

Meanwhile, the tactician continues to express sympathy owing to defender Luke Otiala’s fitness problems.

The left-footed center-back and former St Joseph’s captain has struggled for fitness since joining the Kariobangi-based outfit in 2022.

“It is a sad one (with Luke). He was getting back but got injured again. We hope it is not too serious. It is a sad one with him.”

Sharks face Kakamega Homeboyz at the Police Sacco stadium in Nairobi on Wednesday 12 April from 1 PM.
