The pair, along with Heartland FC and MFM of Lagos, was relegated to the second division of the Nigerian league last year.
Four-time Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Champions, Kano Pillars and Katsina United, will begin their journey to return to the NPFL in the Nigeria National League (NNL) today.
The pair, along with Heartland FC and MFM of Lagos, was relegated to the second division of the Nigerian league last year.
Katsina host City Fc while Pillars travel to Sokoto
Katsina United will be at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina to host City FC from Abuja in NNL Group A2, while Kano Pillars will travel to Sokoto to face Sokoto United in a Group A3 contest.
Considering their pedigree in Nigerian football, expectations are therefore high that the two northern teams would win their opening fixtures to lay down the marker.
Kano Pillars in Group A3
Kano Pillars will be battling Kebbi United, Sokoto United, Malumfashi, and Zamfara United for the Super Eight tickets.
For Katsina United, they have Green Beret of Zaria, FWC Champions Abuja, NAF Abuja, City FC, and Jigawa Golden Stars in Group A2.
Meanwhile, Ikorodu City defeated Ebedie, and debutant Madiba defeated Ekiti United on Tuesday in NNL games.
In other games scheduled for today, the Abia Comets will face Heartland, Crown will welcome Gateway United, the Mighty Jets will challenge EFCC, and Adamawa United will face the Yobe Stars.
