Sassuolo defeated Juventus 1-0 at the Reggio Emilia stadium with the loss coming as a back-to-back defeat for the Bianconeri in the Serie A.

A second-half goal from Gregoire Defrel was enough for Sassuolo to earn a vital three-point which dents Juventus's chance of playing European football next season. This loss comes as the second defeat in a row for Juventus.

As it happened

Massimiliano Allegri made four changes to his side that started against Sporting CP in the Europa League with Arkadiusz Milik and Dusan Vlahovic leading their attack. Alessio Dionisi also made three changes to his side that lost last weekend to Hellas Verona.

Juventus attempted to control the tempo of the game early on by exchanging a series of one- or two-touch passes. The players of the opposition are currently having a very difficult time, as running without the ball was quite tasking.

In the 36th minute of the game, Juventus carved a chance with a lofted pass that evades the keeper and lands right on the head of Bremer in the centre of the box, but his header sailed narrowly wide of the right post.

The first half ended without a goal as both teams went into the dressing room to re-strategise for the second half.

The second half started and both teams failed to take their chances in the 15th minute. It was not until the 64th minute that Sassuolo’s substitute opened the scoring. The striker Gregoire Defrel fired the rebound into the bottom right corner after he was gifted the ball in the box.

Juventus also tried to create a chance from a corner with Federico Gatti jumping inside the box to meet the resulting corner but his header was saved by the goalkeeper.

Sassuolo earned all three points having contained Juventus' attacking threat in the final stage of the game. Juventus will now pay attention to Thursday's clash as they travel to Portugal for the second leg of their Europa League game with Sporting CP.
