Juventus have qualified for the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals after beating Freiburg over two legs
Juventus secured a 2-0 win away at Freiburg in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League round of 16 tie thanks to goals from Dusan Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa.
Juventus sealed a difficult away win despite the home team playing majority of the game a man down with a goal in either half.
The result sends the visitors into the next round with a 3-0 aggregate scoreline after winning the first leg 1-0 in Turin.
Freiburg 0-2 Juventus
Freiburg came into the second leg looking to overcome a 1-0 deficit from the first leg and they started with that intensity when Matthias Ginter’s powerful header forced Wojciech Szczęsny into a low save just after 20 minutes.
Juventus responded with a goal when Vlahovic converted from close range in the 28th minute after a goal-mouth scramble but VAR ruined the celebrations with an offside call.
The visitors would eventually take the lead as the first half wound down when a penalty was awarded after Federico Gatti’s effort was handballed at close range.
Manuel Gulde, the culprit was shown a second yellow and sent off and Vlahovic stepped up to convert the spot kick on the stroke of halftime.
Freiburg pushed on valiantly in the second half, creating chances despite being a man down but Wojciech Szczesny proved equal to the task.
The game wound down and looked assured of a Juventus victory towards the end but Federico Chiesa made sure of it with a goal in the 95th minute.
The result sees Juventus advance to the quarter-finals after what was only Freiburg's second home defeat of the season, the first since August 2022.
