Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has cemented her legacy as one of the greatest female sprinters of all time, but most of her achievements tend to go unappreciated especially because Usain Bolt used to grab most of the headlines back in his sprinting days.

American sprint legend Justin Gatlin has heaped accolades on Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, describing her as one of the greatest sprinters of all time during a discussion on his Ready Set Go podcast alongside Rodney Greene.

Fraser-Pryce secured a spot in Gatlin’s top five female athletes, ranking fourth, alongside fellow Jamaican sprint star Elaine Thompson-Herah in fifth.

While Gatlin placed Florence Griffith-Joyner (Flo-Jo) at the top of his list, followed by Allyson Felix and Gail Devers, his admiration for Fraser-Pryce’s longevity and evolution was evident.

Gatlin highlighted Fraser-Pryce’s consistency and adaptability over a career spanning more than a decade:"The body of work she put up from 2008 to now, every year she has looked to evolve. I remember her running 10.8, then 10.7, and now 10.6. She had to fight for that, especially against her countrywomen, to achieve those goals."

This acknowledgment speaks to Fraser-Pryce’s dominance on the track, having amassed multiple World and Olympic titles since bursting onto the scene in 2008.

On Elaine Thompson-Herah, Gatlin lauded her back-to-back Olympic doubles in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2021, cementing her place among the all-time greats:"Elaine went out there and achieved what most wished to achieve. To be able to go and become 'Olympic Elaine.' She was on fire, got the double—the one-two—and came back and did the same thing at the next Olympics."

Co-host Rodney Greene chimed in, emphasizing Fraser-Pryce’s remarkable return to the sport after giving birth in 2017. He praised her ability to reclaim her spot at the top with gold medal wins in the 100 meters at the 2019 and 2022 World Championships.

"Her body of work—to leave, have a baby, and come back to the top of the sport—is incredible. Her impact on the sport, with her wigs, smile, and the 'Mummy Rocket' brand, makes her unique."

Greene also noted that Fraser-Pryce’s brilliance was often overshadowed by Usain Bolt’s immense global presence. "A lot of what she did paralleled Bolt because he was so big. It kind of shadowed what she was doing at the same time. She gets her shine but not as much because her shining time coincided with Bolt’s era."

Both Gatlin and Greene’s reflections underscore Fraser-Pryce’s status as a trailblazer in women’s sprinting. Her evolution from a young gold medalist in Beijing 2008 to a seasoned champion in her mid-30s demonstrates her unparalleled commitment and resilience
