The entire Junior Starlets fraternity were awarded the FKF President's award after achieving a historic qualification to the 2024 FIFA Women's U-17 World Cup.
The Kenya National Women’s U-17 side Junior Starlets head coach Mildred Cheche has reflected on the journey that led to receiving the FKF President’s award on Friday afternoon.
Cheche and the whole team received the award, granted by Nick Mwendwa, for their historic feat of becoming the first ever Kenyan side to qualify for a FIFA World Cup tournament in history.
The Junior Starlets secured their spot in the U-17 Women's World Cup, set to be held in the Dominican Republic in October, by defeating Burundi 2-0 on the day and 5-0 on aggregate last June.

“It is a big thing for us, not just for me, but for the entire team - the girls and the technical bench,” Cheche told the media. “It is a huge honor to have won the president’s award. It could have been given to anyone else but we are grateful considering what we managed to achieve.”
Cheche emphasized that this historic win sends a powerful message to other Kenyan teams about the possibilities within reach with proper structures and investment.
