Super Eagles hopeful Josh Maja is set for a big summer in the transfer window, with the striker considering his Bordeaux future amidst interest from clubs in and out of France.
Maja attracting interest from European clubs amidst superb season.
Maja has been instrumental in Bordeaux’s potential climb from Ligue 2 to Ligue 1, scoring 13 goals and assisting five more in 31 appearances as Les Girondins fight to regain their top-flight status at the end of the season.
His performances have not gone unnoticed by other clubs in Europe, as teams in Ligue 1, LaLiga, the Premier League, and the Championship have started circling the London-born forward ahead of a possible move in the summer.
Spanish side Real Valladolid are reported to have already offered the striker a deal to tempt him to leave Bordeaux, especially if they somehow fail to meet the requirement for promotion to Ligue 1 in the 2023/24 season.
Maja situation dependent on Bordeaux promotion
Maja’s current deal with Bordeaux expires in the summer, and many teams are being tempted by the prospect of taking the Nigerian from Bordeaux on a free transfer when his deal runs out.
The teams hoping to sign Maja for free will be hoping that Bordeaux fail to make it to Ligue 1 next season, as the Nigerian forward has an extension trigger attached to the French club’s promotion to the first division.
If Bordeaux manage to make Ligue 1 promotion, Maja automatically gets one year added to his contract, complicating any potential transfer from the French club when the season ends.
Bordeaux currently occupy second place in the Ligue 2 table, and while it is almost impossible to catch Le Havre in first place, who lead them with eight points at the summit of the table.
They however lead third-place Metz by only one point making their position in the league quite unsafe.
