Joseph Okumu’s camp has commented on the Harambee Stars defender’s future after his rumoured links to Serie A club AS Roma.

Italian club AS Roma are not the only one interested in Harambee Stars defender Joseph Okumu.

According to the player’s representatives, a number of clubs have enquired about his availability and the defender and his camp are still weighing the offers before making a decision over his future.

“Few clubs in play, not in liberty yet to say,” Okumu’s agent told Pulse Sports over the issue, choosing not to let the cat out of the bag yet.

Reports in Italy early this week said Roma have made Okumu one of their key defensive targets ahead of next season as club legend Daniele De Rossi prepares for his first full campaign as coach.

Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb, reported that Roma have communicated their interest to the player’s representatives and are looking to spend €15 million (Ksh2.1 billion) to sign him from French Ligue 1 side Stade de Reims.

Pulse Sports, however, understands Roma or any other interested club will have to up their offer to convince Reims to sell after the club shelled out €12 million (Ksh1.7 billion) to sign Okumu from Belgian club KAA Gent last summer.

Okumu signed a four-year contract at Reims and with three more still remaining, the French club will not be ready to lose him on the cheap given he is one of their key players.

The centre-back, who attracted interest from Germany, England and France before his switch to Reims, featured in 21 Ligue 1 matches while scoring one goal last season.
