Former Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro continues to attract suitors.

Former Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has been offered to South African Premier Division champions Mamelodi Sundowns, following the exit of coach Rulani Mokwena.

Peseiro on Sundowns radar

Despite leading The Brazilians to another Premiership title and winning coach of the season to boot, Sundowns decided to fire Mokwena and are now in the market for a new top coach.

According to a report from South African publication SNL24, Peseiro, 64, was offered to Sundowns management by a local agent of Vodia Sports International management, Gerald Baloyi.

"Yes Vodia Sports International Management offered Jose Peseiro to Sundowns, though the Nigerian national teams are interested in bringing him to take over again," Gerald Baloyi said.

The record South African Premier Division champions are currently under the stewardship of interim manager Manqoba Mnqithi. For the permanent role, however, they reportedly have a list of three: Patrice Carterton, Josef Zinnbauer and now Jose Peseiro.

Super Eagles reconsider Peseiro

As Gerald Baloyi confirmed, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) are reconsidering Peseiro for the Super Eagles head coach role after Finidi George's short-lived stint in charge.

Peseiro was Super Eagles coach from May 2022 until March this year. He oversaw 22 games in the dugout, and although his tactics were heavily criticised for most of his time in charge, he finished on a high with a silver medal at the African Cup of Nations.

Peseiro’s contract expired a couple of months after the tournament, and although he was reportedly offered an extension, he rejected it, opting to leave the role. Peseiro's stocks are on the high side at the moment, and he has been linked with a number of high-profile jobs.

If the Super Eagles are to get him back, they will have to convince him of something better than he can realistically get from his other suitors.
