Jadon Sancho Biography

Born in London in 2000, Jadon Sancho's passion for the sport was evident from a young age, fuelled by his admiration for Ronaldinho and Chelsea legends Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba.

He began his youth career at Watford, where his skills flourished. At 14, he moved to Manchester City's academy, continuing to impress, but a desire for more playing time led a then-17-year-old to Borussia Dortmund in 2017.

At Dortmund, Sancho blossomed into a star. His dribbling and playmaking lit up the Bundesliga, earning him accolades and a place among Europe's elite young talents.

He broke records, won the DFL-Supercup in 2019 and DFB-Pokal in the 2020-21 season, and became a key figure in BVB's attack.

Manchester United secured his services for a massive £73 million (€85 million) fee in July 2021, with Sancho signing a five-year contract with the option of a further year.

While he showed flashes of brilliance, his time at Old Trafford was inconsistent. Disciplinary issues and a reported falling out with manager Erik ten Hag led to loan spells back at Dortmund in January 2024, and he thrived in his temporary return to North Rhine-Westphalia.

After a brief return to Manchester United for pre-season, the Englishman was frozen out again, leading to him joining boyhood club Chelsea on loan with an obligation to buy under certain reported conditions.

Sancho has shown signs of rediscovering his form, contributing goals and assists under Enzo Maresca's management.

According to reports, Chelsea will be obligated to buy Sancho for £20 million, potentially rising to £25 million with add-ons, if they finish in the top 14 of the Premier League in the 2024-25 season.

This move to his boyhood club provided a fresh start and a chance to reignite his Premier League career.

He quickly made an impact at Chelsea, contributing a match-winning assist for Christopher Nkunku on his debut against Bournemouth in September 2024 and earning Man of the Match honours.

He continued his strong start with assists in his next two matches against West Ham United and Brighton & Hove Albion, showcasing his playmaking abilities.

Sancho eventually scored his first goal for Chelsea in a convincing 5-1 win over Southampton before following that up by scoring the West London club’s first goal in a thrilling 4-3 turnaround win over Tottenham Hotspur, having trailed 2-0.

He was a key player for the England under-17 team that reached the final of the 2017 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, earning the Player of the Tournament award for outstanding performances.

Sancho also featured in the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup, though his participation was limited due to an agreement between Borussia Dortmund and the English FA.

He made his mark with two goals in the opening match against Chile, but his involvement was cut short when Dortmund recalled him for club duties before the round of 16.

Strong performances at BVB earned Sancho a senior England call-up in 2018, and he made his Three Lions debut in a Nations League match against Croatia in October 2018.

Sancho scored his first senior goals for England in a Euro 2020 qualifier against Kosovo, netting a brace in a thrilling victory on September 10, 2019.

He was part of the Three Lions squad that reached the final of Euro 2020, but his penalty miss in the shootout contributed to their heartbreaking defeat to Italy.

Following Euro 2020, Sancho faced a dip in form and disciplinary issues at the club level, ultimately leading to his exclusion from the England squad for the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024.
