While Mourinho has denied the accusations and even taken legal action, Osimhen offered his perspective on the issue as a current Galatasaray player.

Osimhen defends Mourinho but acknowledges the issue

Osimhen’s club made the accusation against Mourinho after the Fenerbahce boss said in his post-match press conference after the heated 1-1 draw between the clubs that the Galatasaray bench had been “Jumping like monkeys” deeming the term used to be racist in nature.

Speaking on the ObiOne podcast with former Chelsea star John Obi Mikel, Osimhen shared his thoughts on the situation, acknowledging that Mourinho’s comments were inappropriate but arguing against the idea that the Portuguese coach is racist.

“José Mourinho is a very special person. He is someone that every African has a close bond with because of the volunteer projects he has done in Africa,” Osimhen said.

However, he did not fully excuse Mourinho’s words, admitting, “It's not nice of him to say they jumped like monkeys, but I don't think he was being racist or that's why he said that.”

Mourinho’s set to battle Galatasaray in court

The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) responded swiftly to the allegations, handing Mourinho a four-match ban and a £35,000 fine for his "unsportsmanlike behavior," which was later reduced.

In retaliation, Mourinho has sued Galatasaray for defamation, demanding 1,907,000 Turkish Liras (£41,467) in damages—a figure symbolizing Fenerbahce’s founding year.

Meanwhile, former players like Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, and Mikel have publicly defended their old boss, insisting that the accusations are unfounded.

The scandal has further intensified the fierce rivalry between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce as the latest chapter after Mourinho had earlier accused the reigning Turkish Champions and the Turkish Super Lig of corruption.
