Fernandes is in the best form of his United career after scoring seven goals in seven games going into Tuesday's visit to Nottingham Forest.

Amorim, who took over at United on November 11, 2024 told the Daily Mail: "It’s not going to happen. This is the kind of player that we want and he’s not going anywhere because I’ve already told him! He’s 30 but he’s still so young because he plays 55 games every season, and between assists and goals he’s there for 30 at least. He’s the type of player we want here."

Fernandes 30, has scored 16 times this season and added 15 assists, sparking speculation at the weekend over a potential £90million move to Real Madrid as United face the prospect of having to sell players to fund new signings.

This has led to Amorim dampening Real Madrid hopes of acquiring the services of his creative lynchpin. Fernandes sought assurances from the club that United's ambitions matched his own before he extended his contract until 2027 last year.

The ex-Sporting Lisbon player’s critics also point to his negative body language on the pitch as a sign that he is growing frustrated at United. Regarding Manchester United's ambitions, Amorim said the team is ambitious and have set the target of winning the Premier League title, which Fernandes is part of the project.

"That is the challenge. We want to win the Premier League again so we want the best players to continue with us. ‘We are in control of the situation. I feel that he is really happy here especially because he understands what we want to do, and then I think he is one more supporter of Man United."

Amorim further defended Fernandes regarding his body language saying: "He really feels it. ‘Sometimes the frustration that you see, that everybody sees and maybe says is not a good thing in a captain, it’s a sign that he wants this so bad."

United are 13th on the log with 37 points from 29 matches and look certain to miss out on Champions League football next season unless they win the Europa League title.
