Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has bemoaned the lack of experience in the current team and called for more players like Mikel Obi, Odion Ighalo and Victor Moses in the team.

Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has attributed the recent failures of the Super Eagles to a lack of experienced players among other circumstances surrounding the team.

Nigeria are fresh off two 1-1 draws against Lesotho and Zimbabwe which has led to widespread criticism from the whole nation and the captain also shared his two cents.

Musa claimed the experienced players in the team like Mikel Obi, Odion Ighalo and Victor Moses were forced out and never replaced which is why the Super Eagles are struggling.

“We have a lot of players who should not have retired from the team when they did but it was what the media reported that forced them out,” Ahmed Musa said.

The 31-year-old continued, “As you can see, we still need someone like Mikel Obi in the team, we still need Victor Moses. “It’s not all about young players in the team because you need players to take them along, but right now we don’t have that.”

The winger went on to plead with the media to take it easier on the current crop of Super Eagles players than they did with the older generation.

“Please, I am begging the media to please take it easy with these young boys, they can’t take too much pressure," the captain said while advocating for his current teammates.

Musa also revealed the troubling circumstances behind Ighalo’s exit from the team and urged the fans to not go overboard with their criticism of the players.

Musa said, “That is why whenever they go onto the pitch to play they panic because they are thinking about what they are going to see on their accounts on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.”

“What do you think forced Odion Ighalo out of Eagles? They threatened to kill his family, and he had to quit. Why will you threaten to kill my family just because I play for my country? When you go outside, you see how they worship us, but when you come back home they treat you like nobody,” he said.

Musa has not played any of Nigeria's last six games but remains the official captain of the Super Eagles.
