AFC Leopards tactician Fred Ambani has vowed to correct woeful head-to-head record against arch rivals Gor Mahia during the Mashemeji derby this month.

AFC Leopards assistant coach, Fred Ambani, is brimming with confidence as his team prepares for the much-anticipated Mashemeji Derby against their fierce rivals, Gor Mahia.

Scheduled for November 24 after the international break, this clash is more than just a game as both teams look to redeem themselves after a series of disappointing performances.

Ambani is determined that Ingwe will not approach the defending FKF Premier League (FKF PL) champions as they have in previous encounters.

The tactician drew inspiration from last weekend’s hard-fought 1-1 comeback draw against Mara Sugar at Dandora Stadium, where Sydney Lokale’s dramatic last-minute equaliser canceled out Meshack Karani’s first-half opener.

“This result has truly motivated us,” said Ambani via Tata Sport.

“It has given us a path to work with and do things differently. We have the international break to rectify a few things. In the derby, I can assure you we will be a very different side. It will not be business as usual as people are expecting," he added enthusiastically.

The derby holds extra weight for Leopards, who have struggled to overcome Gor Mahia in recent years.

Leopards have suffered three defeats and two draws in their last five fixtures against Gor, a record Ambani is set on reversing.

“We always look at how Gor plays and we work on how to counter that,” he stated.

“Honestly, we have lost to Gor so many times recently, and last season’s was the final one. They won’t overcome us anymore.”

With both teams looking to break out of their slumps, the upcoming derby promises to deliver all the intensity and drama fans expect from Kenya’s most storied football rivalry.
