David Beckham tells Manchester United fans that it will take time to get back to the good old days

On Rio Ferdinand’s podcast, David Beckham shared his thoughts on Manchester United’s ongoing transformation under Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

As a club legend and lifelong fan, Beckham emphasized the importance of patience during this transitional period, while acknowledging the urgent desire among supporters to return to the club’s glory days.

Beckham expressed optimism about Ratcliffe’s leadership, recognizing the need for a fresh perspective after years of stagnation under the Glazer family's ownership.

He stated, “I think that it definitely needed change. Many people had said that the club needed a fresh approach in how it's run.” He believes that Ratcliffe, a successful businessman with a genuine passion for the club, could be the catalyst for that change.

However, Beckham also urged fans to temper their expectations. “These things take time,” he remarked, emphasizing that while supporters are eager for improvement, patience is crucial as the club navigates this significant overhaul.

He acknowledged the frustration among fans, especially given United's disappointing start to the current Premier League season, where they sit 14th in the standings. Beckham noted that the desire for the "good old days" is palpable among supporters, stating, “We want those days back, and the sooner the better.”

Throughout the discussion, Beckham highlighted Ratcliffe's willingness to make tough decisions, even if they are unpopular.

Recent actions, such as the dismissal of Sir Alex Ferguson from his ambassadorial role and significant staff cuts, have sparked criticism.

Yet Beckham believes that Ratcliffe’s commitment to improving the club is evident, saying, “The fans see that he cares, and I think that’s a big part of it.”

Drawing from his own experiences as co-owner of Inter Miami, Beckham understands the complexities of running a football club.

He reflected on the emotional difficulty of sacking his former teammate, Phil Neville, when the team struggled in the Eastern Conference.

Beckham’s insights serve as a reminder that leadership in football often involves tough choices and requires a long-term vision.
