Zubimendi’s decision was largely criticised by analysts of Liverpool persuasion, with club legend Jamie Carragher questioning the Spaniard's ambition.
The player, speaking in a recent interview, explained that Liverpool's approach, however flattering, came at the wrong time, and hence, he opted to continue at La Reale.

“Liverpool bid caught me by surprise; I was on vacation,” he told Dario Vasco, per Fabrizio Romano.
“It was an uncomfortable time for me… but I weighed the pros and cons and then concluded that the best option was to stay at Real Sociedad”.
With Manchester City's struggles due to Rodri’s absence, Zubimendi has once again been linked to a Premier League team. It remains to be seen if he will be more welcoming to advancements.
