The Atalanta forward has reflected on the biggest turning point of his career.
Atalanta and Nigeria forward Ademola Lookman has explained the moment his career turned around.
Lookman’s career turnaround
Despite showing early promise at Charlton Athletic in the Championship and League One, an underwhelming period in the Premier League with Everton saw his career threaten to drift away.
Although he enjoyed a positive loan spell with Bundesliga side RB Leipzig in 2017-18, scoring five times in 11 appearances, Lookman could not settle after making the move permanent in 2019-20, returning to the Premier League temporarily at Fulham and Leicester City in 2020-21 and 2021-22, respectively.
However, his 2022 switch to Atalanta has prompted a turnaround in fortunes, with the forward now one of Europe's potent attackers.

Lookman credits Super Eagles switch for turning the tide
The CAF African Footballer of the Year favourite has highlighted his decision to represent Nigeria’s Super Eagles as the moment everything changed for him, citing the team’s togetherness.
“It was massive for me,” he told SportyTV. “That was really the big turning point in my career also. Ever since I’ve put on the Super Eagles jersey it’s been fruitful.
“We’ve been able to achieve a lot as a team, and we’re still growing as a team. The togetherness of the team is something that’s very special within the squad.
“We showed that in the last AFCON when we got to the final but unfortunately we came up a bit short. The foundations are there and it’s a fantastic feeling to say I’m representing my country.
Despite rejecting overtures from Nigeria in 2017 and 2018, Lookman, born in England to Nigerian parents, switched international allegiance to the Super Eagles in 2022.
His first Nigeria appearance came against Ghana on March 25, 2022.
What next for Lookman?
Lookman is anticipated to feature for Atalanta in Tuesday’s Champions League clash with defending champions Real Madrid.
