What Messi said
The 2022 World Cup winner has credited Brazilian football legend Ronaldinho and former Barcelona coach Guardiola for having the biggest impact on his journey as a footballer.
“There are two people at Barcelona who’ve made a huge impact on me,” Messi said. “The first one was Pep Guardiola, because we achieved incredible things together—and Ronaldinho, for how he helped me.”
During Messi's debut, Ronaldinho was the main star of the team and even assisted the Argentine's first-ever goal at the club. He is also reported to have had a strong off-field relationship with Messi to the point that it is alleged to have been shifted on as his influence on the burgeoning star was becoming negative.
Pep, on the other hand, helped Messi understand the game the most from a tactical standpoint. He worked Messi into the most dominant role in his career, False 9, and led Barcelona and consequently Messi through the most successful period in their history.
