The Italy star left Chelsea on deadline day to join the Blues rivals and Premier League leaders on the other side of London.
Chelsea manager Graham Potter has explained why the club let Jorginho leave for their Premier League rivals, Arsenal.
Jorginho joined Arsenal from Chelsea in a surprise deadline day deal worth £12 million over one and a-half-year.
Jorginho's divisive move
The deal drew mixed reactions from Chelsea fans as they did not want the club to strengthen their rival, who are also Premier League leaders.
Despite his performances dividing opinions, Jorginho was a key figure in Chelsea’s squad. The 31-year-old made 18 Premier League appearances for The Blues this season, scoring two goals, while he also featured in all of their Champions League games.
Nonetheless, Potter revealed it was the right decision for both Chelsea and Jorginho to part ways. The former Brighton manager praised Jorginho’s qualities but Chelsea had to take the decision, considering the options they have in the squad.
Potter happy to see Jorginho leave
The Blues paid a British transfer record to sign Enzo Fernandez from Benfica, which contributed to the decision to let Jorginho leave.
“He’s been fantastic. A great person. His service and what he's achieved here is brilliant. Sometimes you have to make a decision. It was a win-win-win with his contract situation and I wish him well.
He’s a top professional and person,” Potter said ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League game against Fulham on Friday.
Jorginho joined Chelsea from Napoli in 2019. The Italy international won the Champions League, the Europa League and the FIFA Club World Cup during his time at the club.
He made 213 appearances during his time at the club, scoring 29 goals and recording nine assists.
The 31-year-old could make his debut for Arsenal when they take on Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday.
