For the 2nd time in the final, Nigerian-born Bukayo Saka explains return from Euro 2024 empty-handed after England's loss to Spain.
Although he is English by birth, Saka’s parents are Nigerian, and the Hale End graduate has never shied away from his dual nationality status and regularly embraces the Nigerian culture.
What Saka said
In an interview with BBC Five’s Football Daily Show, Saka was questioned about his Nigerian heritage and he spoke glowingly about the topic.
He was asked about his connection to his Nigerian roots before the interview made him translate his Yoruba name, which Saka answered adequately.
“It means a lot to me [his Nigerian heritage] Obviously growing up with Nigerian parents but I grew up in this country, so both sides mean a lot to me.
Asked what his name meant, Saka said, “It means added joy.” “I like my name. If I remember correctly, I think my grandma have it to me. I have to double-check with my parents, but I think I'm right.
While many members of the Arsenal squad are camped in Marbella for preseason training, Saka is currently on holiday, as he was busy on England duty until recently.
