The Narok-based side are second on the log and boasts one of the meanest defenses in the league
Mara Sugar technical director Boniface Ambani has backed the team to fight for the Kenya Premier League title after their impressive start to life in the top tier.
The Narok-based side are already defying odds, winning four of their opening seven matches to sit second in the 18-team league. The dream start includes losing only once and drawing twice.
Mara boast of 14 points- three behind league leaders KCB, although the bankers have played one game more. The former international, in analysing the team's impeccable form, said the winning mentality was instilled in the side last season in the Super League when they won promotion to the league.

Relief for Tomas Trucha as key AFC Leopards match postponed amid national call-ups

Mara is one of the three teams to have conceded the fewest goals so far largely because of their watertight defense. Ambani said balance has given the team stability and new players have further elevated the team to a different level.
"These are players who know what winning a title means and the fight one has to input to achieve it. We are basically a balanced team as we brought in a few players, who have raised the levels for us."
