Why Uganda Cranes star Travis Mutyaba is in no rush to leave Bordeaux despite lack of gametime
Amid speculation surrounding his potential departure from Girondins de Bordeaux to join Georgian Premier League side FC Dila Gori, Ugandan international Travis Mutyaba has set the record straight, affirming his commitment to staying in France and honouring his contract.
Recent reports from both France and Georgia suggested that the 19-year-old had completed a move to FC Dila Gori, leaving Bordeaux merely four months after signing a three-year deal in October last year.
However, in an exclusive interview with Africafoot, Mutyaba, speaking through his agency, Prosper Sports Agency, confirmed that while interest from Dila Gori was genuine, he had opted to remain in France to continue his development.

Tusker FC crosses borders in pursuit of experienced Ugandan star for mid-season boost
The Brewers have set their sights on a versatile Ugandan player as they seek to strengthen their squad for the title race.
“I am happy and well integrated into my team, and I will probably stay in France,” Mutyaba asserted. “I want to settle in and get used to European football and its dynamics, because I am in a development programme.
“The club in Georgia (Dila Gori) was ready to pay the contract and offered much more money, but we refused (with my team) because I want to develop and master different aspects of my profession first.
“It is not always a question of money; the project also has to be the right one, that is very important.”
Mutyaba further highlighted his satisfaction with life at Bordeaux, emphasising his pride in playing for a club with such a rich footballing history.

AFCON 2025: Uganda Cranes coach on why this year's tourney is precursor for the 2027 edition
Cranes were urged by coach Paul Put to showcase talent at AFCON 2024, a crucial step before East Africa hosts in 2027.
“My contract here is well written, and everything is going as planned. I don’t know what would make me want to leave. Bordeaux is one of the strongest teams historically in France and in Europe. It’s always a pleasure when I put on the jersey—you feel the strength and the responsibility.”
Although Mutyaba has yet to register a goal or an assist since his arrival at the club, he continues to earn the trust of head coach Bruno Irles, featuring in 14 matches across all competitions.
Irles values the young midfielder’s work ethic, ability to link midfield with attack, and his overall contribution to the team’s build-up play.
Before joining Bordeaux, Mutyaba had already gained experience at top African clubs, including Egyptian giants Zamalek SC and Ugandan Premier League powerhouses SC Villa and Vipers SC.
His talent has also been recognised at the international level, with the youngster earning 21 caps for Uganda’s senior national team, the Cranes, scoring three goals and providing six assists.
Despite the allure of a lucrative move, Mutyaba remains focused on long-term growth, prioritising his footballing development over financial incentives.
As he continues to adapt to European football, the young playmaker is determined to prove himself at Bordeaux and cement his place in the team’s plans for the future.
