Isabirye’s appointment comes days after the club parted company with Brazilian-Spaniard Bianchi on Thursday, following a dismal run of results under him, with the club failing to score in over 650 minutes of action.

Vipers SC has confirmed the appointment of Alex Isabirye as their new head coach, replacing Beto Bianchi who was sacked after 58 days.

Isabirye’s appointment comes days after the club parted company with Brazilian-Spaniard Bianchi on Thursday, following a dismal run of results under him, with the club failing to score in over 650 minutes of action.

“Vipers SC have wrapped up the capture of experienced tactician Alex Isabirye from Uganda Premier League side BUL FC,” Vipers confirmed his appointment via the club’s website.

“The gaffer comes in as a direct replacement for the recently released Beto Bianchi Pellister, who parted ways with the club towards the end of last week,” the statement added.

Though the extent of his contract was not detailed, Vipers has confirmed that Isabirye will work alongside other coaches; Richard Wasswa, Ibrahim Mugisha and Kato Ibrahim as part of his backroom staff.

Pulse Sports reported that Isabirye will take over at the St. Mary’s Stadium, and his impending announcement was given weight when he was reduced to tears as he said goodbye to his players and staff at BUL FC.

His last game in charge of BUL was a 1-0 victory over SC Villa in a replayed match in the Stanbic Uganda Cup on Saturday ending a two-year reign at the club, which he guided to the 2022 Stanbic Uganda Cup, defeating Vipers.

Isabirye also helped URA FC to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League title in 2012, and has also managed other sides including Kyetume FC, Soana FC, Busoga United and Somali outfit Horseed FC.

He has inherited a Vipers SC side who are fumbling with their league title defence, as they sit fourth on 28 points, seven points behind leaders KCCA FC who have played a game more.

The Venoms are also mathematically still with a chance of progressing from their CAF Champions League group.

They are bottom of Group C with a single point, with salvaging pride in their remaining two games as the more realistic target for them.

Vipers is currently on a seven-game winless streak, but Isabirye will seek to find an immediate response to that.

Vipers takes on Wakiso Giants in his first game in charge in the Uganda Cup, at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium on Tuesday.
