Inter Milan beat their rivals AC Milan 3-0 to lift the Supercoppa Italiana in Riyadh Saudi Arabia
Inter Milan found an easy opposition in their familiar rivals AC Milan, beating them 3-0 to lift the Supercoppa Italiana
AC Milan, the winners of the Serie A, and Inter Milan, the champions of last season's Coppa Italia, faced off for the traditional Supercoppa Italiana.
Inter Milan trounced their neighbours, far away from home, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, claiming the title of Supercoppa Italiana champions and earning bragging rights in the streets of Milan.
Inter got off to a good start, scoring in the tenth minute on a Federico Dimarco strike.
The second came about ten minutes after the first, with Bastoni setting up Edin Dzeko in the 21st minute of the game.
Milan did not manage to create anything concrete for a full hour, forcing manager Stefano Pioli to make three substitutions at the same time.
The fortunes of the Rossoneri did not change after the substitutions; instead, it was Inter who grabbed a third in the 77th minute of the game off the boot of Lautaro Martinez.
Inter successfully defended the title they won last season. This victory brings their Supercoppa Italiana tally to seven, two behind record holders Juventus.
Inter dismantle toothless Milan
The Nerazzurri could not have wished for a better start against their bitter rivals, with a goal as early as the 10th minute. Edin Dzeko was at his brilliant best for his duration on the field, and it all started with his involvement in the first goal. The Bosnian released Nicolo Barella behind Milan's defence, who in turn squared it for the wing-back, Dimarco, who made his way into the box to fire Milan into a 1-0 lead.
Dzeko was again involved in the second, this time as the scorer. The striker had the beating of Tonali before aiming for Ciprain Tatarusanu's far post.
The game continued as an end-to-end affair, with Ismael Bennacer and Rafael Leao failing to grab opportunities to pull their side back into the game and Lautaro Martinez missing an opportunity to push his side farther ahead.
Lautaro did not pass up the opportunity the second time around, fending off a challenge from Fikayo Tomori and finishing off with a well-hit strike against Tatarusanu.
Inter Again
Inter have won the Supercoppa Italiana in successive seasons for only the second time in their history, the second time since winning it in 2005 and 2006.
They are also the first team to win it in successive seasons since Juventus in 2012 and 2013.
