Houston Dynamo fans were left fuming after Inter Miami’s star player, Lionel Messi, was notably absent during their match on Sunday night.
The 37-year-old Argentine legend, who had been expected to grace the pitch, was mysteriously left out of the starting XI by Inter Miami’s manager, Javier Mascherano.
Messi did not travel with the squad, leaving fans in the Shell Energy Stadium seething with disappointment.

It was a decision that had many scratching their heads, especially given the huge turnout for the game.
The news that Messi would be sidelined was a blow to the thousands who had filled the stadium, eagerly hoping to see the World Cup winner in action.
To soften the blow, Houston Dynamo took the unusual step of offering free tickets to all home fans attending the game, a testament to the growing influence of the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner in the MLS.
The club’s official statement read,
“To show our appreciation, fans who attend tomorrow night’s match can claim a complimentary ticket to a future Dynamo match this season. Additional details will be provided early next week.”

Javier Mascherano defended his decision to rest Messi, explaining that the iconic player was simply given a break after a demanding start to the season.
“Leo is fine, he is normal and he will train normally like all his teammates,” Mascherano said, further adding that the decision was purely based on fitness.

Despite Messi’s absence, Inter Miami still managed to dominate the match, cruising to a 4-1 victory over a lacklustre Dynamo side.
Goals from Telasco Segovia and Tadeo Allende put Miami 3-0 up by halftime, with Luis Suarez adding a fourth in the second half to complete the rout.
