Atalanta dropped points on the road for only the second time this season in the Serie A.
Nigerian international Ademola Lookman and his Atalanta BC side were at the receiving end of a 2-1 defeat in the Serie A.
The Super Eagles forward was a second-half substitute in the game as the visitors failed to win just their second away game of the season in the league on Wednesday night.
Lookman, 25, started on the bench despite his recent impressive scoring form for Piero Gasperini's men.
He eventually came on later on in the second 45, playing for 21 minutes but couldn't save his side from defeat to their relegation-threatened host.
Lecce seal impressive first home win
The struggling host was the biggest winner of the evening after a well-deserved win over the high-flying Atalanta.
The home side was expectedly the second best all through the game as Atalanta dominated proceedings at Stadio Comunale.
However, two goals in the space of two first-half minutes completely turned things around for Lecce.
Federico Baschiritto and Federico di Francesco, who scored the goal of the day, were the scorers and heroes for the home side.
Duvan Zapata pulled one back for Atalanta before the break but it was nothing but a consolation goal in the end.
The standings
A crucial first three points of the season at home means Lecce moves up to 16th on the table, five points away from the danger zone.
For Atalanta, despite the defeat, they remain fourth but have AS Roma, just a point behind, breathing down their neck now.
