Manchester City's 2-0 loss to Liverpool on Sunday marked a fourth consecutive league defeat for the defending champions.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has delivered a defiant response to chants directed at him during his team’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Goals from Cody Gakpo in the first half and a Mohamed Salah penalty in the second condemned City to their fourth consecutive Premier League loss, a rare and troubling streak for the defending champions.

The high-stakes match saw tensions escalate, with Liverpool fans taunting Guardiola with chants of "getting sacked in the morning" as City's recent struggles continued. However, the Spaniard dismissed the chants with a mixture of humor and defiance.

Speaking after the game, Guardiola quipped, "I'm so proud of my six Premier League titles!" before addressing the Anfield crowd's jibes as per Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano.

"I didn't expect Anfield to say I will be sacked in the morning but it's fine, it is what it is. When you win, you laugh. Maybe they are right! I didn't expect that at Anfield. Maybe they should've sung it in the past," he added with a hint of irony.

Despite the challenging times, Guardiola remained optimistic, stating, "From here, we will start building our confidence and winning games. I want the team back, I want my players back, we will make a reset from here. I can feel that."

Manchester City’s form has dipped alarmingly in recent months. The reigning champions have not registered a win since their narrow 1-0 victory over Southampton in October.

In their last five matches across all competitions, they have avoided defeat only once, in a chaotic 3-3 draw against Feyenoord in the Champions League.

This poor run of form has left City in fourth place in the Premier League standings, with 23 points, 11 points adrift of league leaders Liverpool.

Guardiola is determined to reverse City’s fortunes, urging his squad to reset and rebuild their confidence. With key players struggling for form and others injured, the Spaniard faces a crucial period to revive his side’s title hopes.

The spotlight remains firmly on Guardiola and Manchester City as they navigate uncharted territory in a season filled with unexpected challenges.
