Sergio Ramos is happy to enjoy Messi's Magic now that they are teammates
Former Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has praised Lionel Messi after the diminutive Argentine came to Paris Saint-Germain's rescue with a last-minute free kick in their 4-3 victory over Lille in Ligue 1.
Ramos happy to enjoy Messi's Magic now they are teammates
The pair spent the better part of their careers being enemies while Ramos played for Real Madrid and Messi turned out for Barcelona, but that did not stop Ramos from recognising the little man’s quality and has not affected their relationship now that they both play for PSG.
Following the victory over Lille, Ramos was quick to point out Messi’s quality and said he was not surprised that Messi pulled off the stunning winner after seeing him do it countless times for Barcelona.
He said, “I am no longer surprised by Messi. At Barca, he was used to deciding games like he did today.”
Ramos also noted that he was happy to be playing with Messi rather than against him since he now gets to enjoy rather than suffer the mercurial man’s magic.
“I’m glad he’s on my team now. It’s better to have him as a teammate. Whoever you give the choice to, of having Messi with or against you, the response is quick and honest.” He added.
Ramos happy with ‘strange’ relationship
Ramos also discussed their much-talked-about relationship on and off the pitch, saying that he knew it seemed odd to most people, but it was easy for a former Real Madrid player and a former Barcelona player to get along just fine since they were working together on a common goal in a new team.
Speaking after PSG’s win over Lille, he said, “It is something that arouses a lot of curiosity. But we have the same goal: to win with PSG. We want to make the team better, with our experience and good performances. My relationship with Messi is excellent. There is great respect among the players.”
Ramos and Messi have drawn praise in recent weeks for their performances with PSG. Ramos for his dogged defensive display against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League, and Messi for scoring last-gasp winners against Toulouse and Lille in Ligue 1.
However, the pair still have much work to do, as does the entire PSG team, as they continue a string of games that have a potentially massive significance in their season.
