The Blues have struggled to stamp their authority at home in the Premier League this season
Chelsea’s Enzo Maresca has questioned the club’s mentality after the Blues slipped to a 1-1 draw at home against Crystal Palace.
Chelsea drop points against Crystal Palace
The Blues were made to rue several missed chances as they failed to gather maximum points at home for the second time in a row in the Premier League this season.
Chelsea took the lead through Nicolas Jackson in the 25th minute, but the Senegalese striker’s goal was ruled out by a sensational strike from Ebere Eze, which eventually earned Crystal Palace a point at Stamford Bridge.
The draw was characterised by several missed chances from Chelsea, as Cole Palmer, Jackson, and Noni Madueke all spurned chances that would have given Chelsea their first win at home in the league in the 2024/25 campaign.
Maresca’s brutal takedown of Chelsea mentality
Following the draw against Crystal Palace, Maresca was brutally honest about Chelsea’s fall from grace, saying, “Probably one thing that has to be clear: Chelsea three years ago won the Champions League… but now it is not that kind of Chelsea.”
The Italian manager also questioned the team’s mentality, adding, “Now, sometimes, if you don’t win it is normal.”
Maresca will be hoping to use the upcoming international break to assess his squad once more and find the players who are more mentally suited to bringing back the Chelsea of old.
