Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa remains adamant that he will defend his seat despite questions over his eligibility.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Nick Mwendwa has reiterated his stand that he will be on the ballot to defend his seat.

Mwendwa has remained adamant in vying for a third term in the upcoming FKF national elections scheduled for December 7, 2024.

The FKF boss has already completed the maximum two-terms as per the Sports Act 2013 but he insists that he is eligible for a third term.

"I will defend my seat," Mwendwa told Flashscore.

"In fact, I will present my nomination papers to the FKF Electoral Board on Monday, October 14," he added

The FKF boss, however, failed to disclose how he would navigate the eligibility hurdles.

Mwenwa's announcement comes on the back of Cabinet Secretary for Sport Kipchumba Murkomen's stand that no aspirant who has already served their second term will be allowed to run for the same office.

The CS had appeared before the National Assembly on September 25 where he confirmed that the officials were, however, allowed to run for other offices.

"A letter has been sent to FKF from the Sports Registrar and it is clear that under the Sports Act, no one will run for office for more than two terms," he told the National Assembly

“I believe that if FKF officials who have served for two terms want to run for office, they should run for maybe a different office other than the one they are currently holding.”

The FKF presidential race has attracted interest from Former Kenyan Premier League CEO Jack Oguda, Extreme Sports CEO Hussein Mohammed, ex-Gor Mahia star Sammy ‘Kempes’ Owino, Gor Mahia secretary general Sam Ochola and most recently Kakamega Homeboyz chairman Cleophas Shimanyula among others.
