Former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Sheyi Adebayor has urged Gunners fans to forget about his notorious goal celebration in 2009.

Adebayor moved from Arsenal to Manchester City in July 2009, signing a five-year contract for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of £25 million.

The Togolese striker became a villain among the Arsenal fans for the way he celebrated in his first game against them as a Manchester City player.

Adebayor ran the length of the pitch to celebrate right in front of the Arsenal fans, antagonising them and earning widespread criticism.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the former Arsenal man defended his actions, insisting he was being taunted by the Gunners supporters.

"I think the fans can forget what happened in 2009 when I ran the length of the pitch,” Adebayor said

“Today I will make it clear, I don’t think any human being would accept it if people were singing about and insulting your family, especially your mother and father.

“I would do anything for my mother and father.”
