Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has revealed he has no intentions of selling one of his key players this summer.

Pep Guardiola has made it clear that he wants to keep James McAtee at Manchester City this summer, despite expectations that the midfielder would be sent out on loan again.

After the arrival of Ilkay Gundogan from Barcelona, the rumour mill started to spin, indicating there could be an exit for the young midfielder.

Guardiola opens up on James McAtee future

"I said to Txiki [Man City director]: I don't want to loan him and I don't want to sell him because I need his specific ability in small spaces."

Guardiola's comments suggest that McAtee's chances of first-team action may increase, particularly after the sale of Julian Alvarez.

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Sheffield United but now looks set to stay at the Etihad Stadium and fight for his place in the team.

The champions have started their season brilliantly with two wins from their opening two games, including the 4-1 trashing of Ipswich.

McAtee did not feature but with the season long and tasking, the 21-year-old is expected to get significant game time.
