Laporta speaks on Barcelona's recent defensive performances.
Barcelona have become masters of grinding out wins in recent games, contributing to their comfortable lead at the top of LaLiga; however, the club's president, Joan Laporta, says he prefers a more expansive style of play to the defensively resolute, fancying a 6-5 scoreline to a 1-0 one.
Laporta on winning 1-0
The Barcelona president was speaking at a Circulo Ecuestre colloquium event, where he was giving updates about the Catalan club.
Barcelona's current results, which are, in a sizable number, dominated by the 1-0 scoreline, were brought up, and the Barcelona president passed comments on it.
The 60-year-old explained that he prefers winning by scoring many goals rather than the slim margin of a 1-0 win, saying he preferred winning 6-5 to 1-0, according to Relevo.
He, however, admitted appreciating the quality they have defensively, admonishing the steeliness, and even going further to say he enjoyed it, contrary to what he and many others from the club have called the Barca way in the past.
Laporta pointed out that the club has not had a well-oiled defensive unit as they have now since they had the back four of Dani Alves, Gerrard Pique, Carles Puyol and Eric Abidal.
"I'm more into winning 6-5 than 1-0," Laporta said.
"But I'm enjoying our defense. We haven't had one like this since the famous Alves, Puyol Pique and Abidal"
Barcelona's defence
Barcelona have the best defensive record in LaLiga this season, and even in the top five European leagues, as they have kept 18 clean sheets in 24 league games, conceding only eight goals.
Their 18 clean sheets are double the number of the next-best defensive record in the league, Atletico Madrid's, with nine.
Barcelona's defence has contributed greatly to their lofty league position, with their attack not as prolific as earlier in the season.
The Blaugrana have squeezed out a 1-0 victory in five of their last ten games in LaLiga.
