His eligibility to represent either Kenya, England or Jamaica stems from the fact that he has not been capped at senior level. Born and raised in the United Kingdom to a Kenyan mother and Jamaican father, a tug of war is expected among the three countries when it comes to international allegiance.

However, in a recent interview, Spence spoke openly about his international future. The all-action fullback capable of playing either on the left or right position, addressed speculation regarding which national team he will represent in the coming years.

As reported by Flashscore, Spence insists that he will continue giving his best on the field and his future will take care of itself.

“Who doesn’t want to play for their country? That’s something I’m looking forward to. If I get called up, happy days; if I don’t, I’ll just keep working hard.

“I haven’t heard from anyone. I’m just focusing on right now. I just want to keep playing well and help the team win games.”

Spence was signed by Spurs in July 2022 but has had to contend with three loan moves since that period.  Spence joined French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais on a loan on January 31, 2023 until the end of the 2022–23 season. He made ten appearances for Rennes, including nine starts.

EFL Championship club Leeds United announced the signing of Spence on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur in August 2023 However, his loan at Leeds was hortlived.

Spence suffered a knee ligament injury in mid September in training that saw the team terminate his contract. A January move to Italian Serie A side Genoa in 2024  saw the dreadlocked defender make 16 appearances for the Rossoblù in the second half of the season.

However, the club was unable to meet the option to buy a fee of £8.5m at the end of his loan spell and he returned to Tottenham Hotspur.

Spence has won plenty of plaudits this season for his renaissance at Spurs  even earning Man of The Match Award against Manchester United.
