BREAKING: Manchester United sack manager Erik Ten Hag
United’s 2-1 loss to West Ham drops them to 14th in the Premier League, leading to the coach’s dismissal.
Amorim discusses replacing Ten Hag at Manchester United
Despite reportedly being United's first choice, the Sporting boss refuses to get drawn into speculation.
"I knew this question was coming, and obviously, I will not discuss the future.
"I'm very proud to be Sporting's coach, that's all," Amorim said.
Amorim has been linked to several European powerhouses in the past and his expansive style will suit what the Red Devils' bosses require in their next manager.
However, Sporting's impressive run and potential silverware are believed to be reasons Amorim wants to stay put mid-season.
His contract has a buyout clause of 10 million euros for foreign clubs, and United are ready to pay whatever it takes to get their man.
Ten Hag was fired after a run of 4 wins in 14 games and a failure to improve a number of players signed for big fees.
