When asked if he thinks about surpassing Yekini's record, the 25-year-old striker downplayed the notion, stating,
“No, no. I really don’t care about this. I just want to do my job, score goals, win games, and then if I equal it, I equal it.”
“If I surpass it, I surpass it. But that doesn’t take away the fact that Rashidi Yekini is the greatest striker the Super Eagles have ever," he added.
Osimhen’s comments came in a video shared on social media as Nigeria prepares for their final qualifying match against Rwanda.
His goal against Benin was crucial in securing a point that sealed Group D for the Super Eagles. Before the match, Libya's victory over Rwanda had already qualified them for AFCON 2025.
With Osimhen's impressive scoring ability and determination to focus on team success rather than personal accolades, Nigerian fans are eager to see if he can continue his scoring streak and eventually break Yekini’s long-standing record.
Osimhen, who remains a key figure in Nigeria's quest for glory in Morocco next year, will look to go clear of Odegbami when the Eagles take on the Amavubi on Monday..
