He linked up with the Paraguay squad ahead of the World Cup qualifier clash with Equador.

Brighton and Hove Albion attacking midfielder Julio Enciso has finally opened up on how he recently suffered a medical emergency while travelling for international duty.

The 20-year-old who was a second-half substitute in the Seagulls' 3-2 win against Tottenham on Sunday, travelled to meet up with his Paraguay team-mates ahead of their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

However, whilst on the plane Enciso started to feel unwell and subsequently lost consciousness before a fellow passenger came to his rescue. After meeting up with Gustavo Alfaro's squad ahead of their clash with Ecuador on Thursday, Enciso took to social media to detail his mid-air ordeal.

"My head hurts. I almost died, I fainted on the plane. I was powerless, I didn't eat or sleep well. At one point I got up to go to the bathroom and I felt like I was falling. A guy grabbed me and took me to the front; He made me drink Coke and a Japanese soup and that did me good," he said, per Sports Witness.

Enciso, whose all seven appearances for Brighton this season have all been from the bench, will hope to be in Paraguay's starting line-up against Equador on Friday at the Estadio Rodrigo Paz Delgado, Quito.

Paraguay, who will also settle scores with Venezuela on October 16, will hope to qualify for the 2026 World Cup for the first time in 18 years, after last gracing the quadrennial show in 2006.

Enciso has earned 19 caps for his country since making his senior international debut aged just 17 and netted his first goal in their defeat by eventual finalists Colombia in the 2024 Copa America.
