Otieno has been nominated for the FC Tormenta Player of the Year award after enjoying a successful individual season for the American side.

Former Gor Mahia midfielder Tobias Otieno has been nominated for the FC Tormenta Player of the Season award after enjoying a stellar campaign at the heart of midfield for the side.

Tormenta missed out on a USL League One qualification playoff place by just one point, but Otieno did have a season to remember. He established himself as a key player by starting in 27 out of 30 games, averaging 75 minutes a match.

He registered two goals and two assists this season, making 2.7 tackles and interceptions per 90, recovering the ball 5.5 times a match.

He registered an 85 percent successful pass completion ratio all season, and his heatmap indicates he was busy in the middle of the park, playing a key part in helping Tormenta get close to playoff spots.

Voting for the Tormenta FC Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year awards will run through till Friday, November 10, at 11:59 PM ET, with voting permitted once per day.

The winner will be determined via a weighted vote from fans which will comprise 80 percent of the poll, the Tormenta FC staff ballots comprising 10 percent of the poll as well as the media ballots, which comprise 10 percent of the poll.

Players eligible for the Tormenta FC Player of the Year include anyone who made a first-team appearance for the South Georgia side during the 2023 season.

Having completed his second season at South Georgia Tormenta, Otieno's journey to this point has been one of dedication and growth.

He made his entry into the Statesboro-based side in early 2022, after a stint at another USL League One club, Union Omaha.

Otieno's football journey began in the Western part of Kenya where he showcased his skills in the youth team of Sony Sugar FC. Over time, his talent could not be contained, and he earned a well-deserved promotion to the senior side.

In 2019, a pivotal opportunity arose when Gor Mahia came calling, and Otieno made a move to the club, marking a significant turning point in his career. He quickly acclimated to the new environment and displayed his capabilities on the field.

After making a mark with Gor Mahia for half a season, the allure of international horizons led him to the United States, where he joined Union Omaha in 2020.
