Kylian Mbappe is leading the 2022 World Cup golden boot race and is a major threat ahead of the quarterfinals clash against England.
A number of top football stars have shared their mind on how they believe the French world champion can be stopped in the quarterfinals.
Mbappe has the pace and physicality and the England camp are reportedly plotting a tactical operation on ‘how to stop Mbappe’.
According to former France captain Patrice Evra, Mbappe will be very hard to deal with. He added that John Stones and Harry Maguire will find it very difficult to deal with him if he chooses to switch to the middle.
"To stop him when he's in the centre, you have to be close to him every time, you have to frustrate him, foul him, he doesn't like to be fouled, but it's going to be difficult to stop him.”
On the suggestions that Kyle Walker can stop Mbappe, he noted that if it so then Mbappe will frustrate him by playing in the middle.
"Kyle Walker can be confident and say he's got him, he's fast, he's strong, but Mbappe will find a way to escape”.
Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile advised that England must not allow Mbappe any space.
“Kylian is definitely the most difficult striker to defend against, he makes it tough in every game. It is always a battle when you are playing him”, he told Mirror.
“In Ligue 1 there are so many top strikers and you always have to adapt against the striker you are defending against. It is always difficult when you have tough opponents. It is the same when you are playing against Kylian, you always have to adapt because he is an outstanding player and a special talent.
“It is different from other strikers and the main thing is not to leave him any space, but you have to work as a team to defend against him during the game. This is something you work on in the week before the match where you collectively work on how to stop him.
“The coach will talk to us in the build-up to the match and give us advice on how to stop Kylian, what we need to do and how to work together. You always know that Kylian can always make the has explained the secret of how teams prepare to face superstar striker Kylian Mbappe”.
Gary Neville and Rio Ferdinand back Kyle Walker to stop Mbappe.
"It looks like a collision course waiting to happen doesn't it?" Neville added. "Mbappe versus Walker. We've got the perfect right-back to deal with Mbappe if anyone can - physical, pace, experience."
Ferdinand shared Neville's opinion. "For me, Kyle Walker is the only defender on the planet right now that will stand there and go to Mbappe: 'Right, 1-v-1, let’s have a race.'," the former centre-back.
