The retired Harambee Stars goalkeeper is aiming to transform Abana Abeingo amidst Gor Mahia's league dominance.

Newly appointed Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Ken Kenyatta is brimming with optimism as he takes charge of the team for the 2024/25 season.

Kenyatta, who was officially unveiled on Friday at Abana Abeingo, is eyeing silverware and is determined to build on the legacy of his predecessor Patrick Odhiambo.

Odhiambo, who led the team to an FKF Cup title in the 2022/2023 season, recently departed to join KCB.

Speaking at the unveiling, Kenyatta expressed his respect for the competition but emphasized the importance of hard work and preparation.

"I respect other teams because everyone wants to be a champion, but preparations and readiness will determine who lifts the title at the end of the season," he stated as per The Star.

The former Kenya international is confident in the quality of his squad but acknowledged the need for reinforcements following the departure of some senior players at the end of the last season.

Kenyatta, who has signed a one-year deal, will be assisted by Dancun Omondi.

The coaching staff remains largely unchanged, with John Waw continuing as the goalkeeping coach and Boniface Imbenzi retaining his position as team manager.

The experienced coach recognizes the high expectations placed upon the team, especially after their recent taste of success.

"Homeboyz have tasted the FKF Cup title and expectations are high. This means we have to work extra hard. Everyone loves to be associated with gold, but very few know the difficult process it takes to have the finished product," Kenyatta added.

With an illustrious coaching career spanning over two decades, Kenyatta brings a wealth of experience to the Homeboyz.

He previously coached Ushuru FC, famously leading them to the 2013 FKF Premier League after a thrilling comeback against Posta Rangers.

Despite being 2-0 down, his team rallied to draw 2-2 in normal time and eventually triumphed 5-4 on post-match penalties. The club, which later changed its name to Ushuru FC, unfortunately folded in 2020.

Kenyatta's next stint was with Talanta FC, where he guided the team to the FKF Premier League after winning the National Super League title in 2021.

His tenure, however, ended on a sour note as he was sacked towards the end of last season due to poor results.

Nevertheless, Kenyatta's coaching prowess was recognized when he was named the NSL Coach of the Year in 2021.

Though he has yet to clinch a major title the gaffer is well-regarded for his talent development.
