Many believe in the narrative of a parent’s blessing goes a long way and that is no different for the famous St Anthony Kitale Boys secondary school football player Aldrine Kibet.

Kibet just secured himself a spot in the Nastic Soccer Academy (NSA) in Tarragona, Spain thanks to his dominant exploits on the pitch and the unwavering support from his parents. His prowess on the pitch saw him lead his school’s football team to become champions at the Secondary Schools National Games.

But what has kept the youngster motivated to keep going and never give up?

Kibet’s father Christopher Kibet, has been of great support to his son’s career and one can easily tell how excited he is that his son is following his passion.

Unlike many parents, Christopher believes that encouraging your child to take up his passion is one of the greatest things you can ever do.

He noted that he has always supported his son in pursuing his dream in football and he has witnessed immense growth in his son’s career.

“I feel proud as a dad since the journey with this boy (Kibet) has not been easy…it’s been about 10 years but we are not yet there,” he said.

He added that he was excited when his son told him about his passion for football and he decided to facilitate him and help him achieve his goals.

“When my son told me he loves football…I was happy because I have always been a firm supporter of the sport. I decided to facilitate him and make sure he never missed a tournament and never lacked the right playing gear.

I always took him to several tournaments including to Nairobi and you can imagine I come from Baringo. I gave him all the support,” an elated Christopher said.

He added that supporting Kibet’s talent enabled him to become disciplined since that was his passion and he challenged other parents to follow suit.

“Parents need to support their children who are taking up sports. Our country is now supporting sports fully and I want to urge the parents to bring in their children…the future is very bright,” he said.

He added that he used to pray for his son to grow in the sport and going to Spain is a dream come true for him and his parents.
