The defending champions of the Pepsi University Football League, Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) were held in a 1–1 draw with Nkumba University in the first leg of this year’s quarterfinals.

In the game played in Entebbe on Wednesday afternoon, Ismail Lubega broke the deadlock for the hosts as early as the second minute.

Nkumba took a narrow lead at the break. However, at the restart of the second half, Akbar Ssentongo drew the visitors level and one-all it finished at full-time.

The two sides will meet again next week in Nkozi to determine who advances to the semifinals of 2024 Pepsi University Football League.

The second legs of the quarterfinals will be underway starting tomorrow, Thursday, when the 2019 winners Uganda Christian University (UCU) host the 2012 champions Makerere University in Mukono at 3pm.

Makerere has a slim 2-1 advantage over UCU from the first leg played at the Makerere University Grounds a fortnight ago.
