A good record of all the 54-member associations of CAF took part in the campaign, with about a dozen starting through the preliminary stage due to their rankings.

The curtains for the qualifying campaign of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations are finally coming down after a gruelling 18 months of action.

About 140 matches have been played so far, with about 342 goals scored as teams battled for the 24 slots.

A good record of all the 54-member associations of CAF took part in the campaign, with about a dozen starting through the preliminary stage due to their rankings.

The Gambia is the only team that went through the preliminary round and qualified for the final tournament.

Bigwigs Morocco, Uganda’s Group F opponent Algeria, South Africa and holders Senegal were the first nations to book their berths, joining the hosts Ivory Coast.

Egypt qualified for a record 26th time after topping Group D with 15 points from a possible 18.

They will be joined by Ivory Coast (25), Ghana (24), Algeria (20), Tunisia (21) and DR Congo and Nigeria (20) as the only teams who will be making 20 or more appearances next year.

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations will be held from January 13th to February 14th in Ivory Coast.

2021 hosts Cameroon will know their fate on Tuesday 12th, September when they host Burundi in the final Group C match.
