The 24-year-old featured for Kenya Under 23 back in 2018.
Kenyan midfielder Henry Ochieng has completed a move to English National League side Aldershot Town on an 18-month contract from Chelmsford City who ply their trade in the National League South.
The 24-year-old who graduated from the West Ham United academy back in 2015 has turned into a journeyman with this being his 10th club in eight years.
Aldershot were ecstatic about roping in Ochieng as they went on to highlight some of his achievements which include featuring for the Kenya Under 23 side.
“We’re delighted to announce the signing of Henry Ochieng from Chelmsford City. The 24-year-old joins on an 18-month contract and has notched 33 appearances for The Clarets.
An industrious central midfielder, Ochieng will bolster The Shots’ midfield ranks. Ochieng came through the youth ranks at West Ham United, before moving to Leyton Orient where he racked up a number of Football League appearances.
Eligible to play for Kenya through his parents, Ochieng received a call-up for an African Cup of Nations match vs Sierra Leone, but, with the match being cancelled, missed out on making his international debut. He has, however, represented Kenya at Under-23 level,” read a statement from the club.
Ochieng lasted half a season with Chelmsford as he joined the side in the off season transfer window back in July and featured 29 times for them, scoring one goal in the process.
Aldershot Head of Football Operations Terry Brown could not hide his delight after signing Ochieng who impressed them during their FA Cup tie which Chelmsford won 2-0 back in October.
“We’re really pleased to welcome Henry on board. He first impressed us whilst watching Chelmsford ahead of our FA Cup fixture against them and he played a big part in them beating us on that day.
He’s 24 and has experience in the league above and he’ll bring some steel to our midfield. We believe he’ll play a big part of our young side moving forward and we’re delighted to have him here,” said Brown.
