Miranda admitted that he was shocked to see his former Benfica teammate Ruben Amorim become Manchester United’s manager.

Ruben Amorim’s former Benfica teammate Roderick Miranda has explained his shock after learning that the Portuguese football manager had landed a role at Manchester United.

Roderick Miranda revealed that he encountered a very different personality from Ruben Amorim and never thought he would land a managerial role, especially with a top club like Manchester United.

According to the Daily Mail, Miranda noted that in the changing room, Ruben Amorim would be the one to bring the vibes and when he got the news that Amorim was coaching a top Premier League club, he was shocked.

However, he explained that aside from his funny side, Ruben Amorim would always show up when it mattered as he lauded his unique football skills. He added that it could be the reason why Manchester United selected him as a coach.

Roderick Miranda and Ruben Amorim came through Benfica's academy and played together in the early 2000s.

"I never thought he'd become a coach! Not because of his football skills or his intelligence, but because he was the changing room clown. He had a really fun personality and was always doing something to make people laugh,” Miranda said.

“When I heard he started as a coach I was a little bit surprised and wondered how the guy I played with could become so serious!

“But he was a very intelligent player. He could play in many different positions, so maybe that's why he's a brilliant coach because he has such a great understanding of the game.”

Amorim played as a midfielder for Belenenses, Benfica, Braga, and Qatari side Al-Wakrah and also earned 14 caps for Portugal between 2010 and 2014

Ruben Amorim made headlines by ending Sporting Lisbon's 19-year title drought and was appointed in November 2024 to do the same for Manchester United.

However, things have yet to work out for him at Old Trafford. Manchester United are currently sitting 13th in the Premier League.
