Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has picked the favourite to win the next CAF Africa Footballer of the Year award.

Napoli star Victor Osimhen was the previous winner of the Africa Footballer of the Year award, following his performance with his club.

This honour came after Victor Osimhen led Napoli to the Serie A championship and took home the CAF Africa's Best Player trophy.

However, the 2024 CAF award is edging towards a Super Eagles player who is not Osimhen and Ndidi has picked his possible winner.

Ndidi predicts that Ademola Lookman will defeat Victor Osimhen to take home the CAF Africa Footballer of the Year title this year.

Wilfred Ndidi said, as reported by ThisDay, “In all honesty, I think Ademola (Lookman) stands a better chance of winning it.

“Though both he and Osimhen have done well for their clubs, but Ademola stands a better chance.”

Osimhen, the current holder is also in contention for the award this year but faces tough competition from his country man Lookman

Lookman has been a major contributor to Atalanta's triumph in Serie A with an outstanding season.

In the Europa League final versus Bayer Leverkusen, he netted three goals to give Atalanta their first-ever European championship.

With his 27 goals in all competitions, he was named Atalanta's Best Player of the Season thanks to his performances.

Lookman had a crucial role in Nigeria's success in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d'Ivoire, as he guided his team to the championship game.

With three goals and an assist in an outstanding performance, he was named to the Tournament Team.

Lookman recently took home the Ghana Football Awards' Best African International Footballer title in Accra.

The Atalanta star’s incredible season puts him in the running for the coveted CAF Africa Footballer of the Year award, which will be announced in December.
