Pep Guardiola compared his striker Erling Haaland with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in their prime.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola showered his Norwegian striker Erling Haaland with high praise after the victory against Chelsea, as he placed the 24-year-old in the same cadre as the greats of the past two decades: Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Premier League opener was business as usual for Haaland. The former Dortmund man took the ball in his stride before slotting past Robert Sanchez.

Manchester city to ward off Real Madrid interest for star player with bumper contract
Manchester City are reportedly preparing a fresh contract for one of their best players to ward off Real Madrid's interest.
The goal took his tally in the Premier League to 91 goals in 100 games. Guardiola marveled at his remarkable scoring ratio and was moved to compare him with Messi and Ronaldo.
What Guardiola said.
"He has the numbers for Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, who controlled the last decade, 15 years, absolutely everything,” Guardiola said, per Goal.
“In terms of numbers, it is that level. So, I don't know how he does it, but in 100 games scoring 91 goals is something in the Premier League, in this country, is unbelievable."
Guardiola went on to send fear down the spines of rivals after he said Haaland was primed to have a better season than the last, in which he still managed to win the Golden Boot.
“I had a feeling that he feels better than last season at this stage. After travel last season, he felt a bit 'mmm-mmm' [so-so] or felt he was tired. This season, I think for the Euros unfortunately Norway was not there, there was more rest and yeah, he feels good.
"The goal was magnificent. His contribution is in many things. He had two or three chances and always I had the feeling there is a gap to improve as a football player."
Meanwhile, Guardiola has expressed surprise at the club's 2-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
