'He is a teacher'- Inter-Miami owner David Beckham reveals key role that Lionel Messi has taken upon himself at the club

The former England international has disclosed that Lionel Messi has taken it upon himself to play a more active role in nurturing thee youngsters at the club.

Inter Miami owner David Beckham has recently shared insights into Lionel Messi's influential role at the club, particularly in mentoring young talent.

Beckham noted that Messi has taken it upon himself to actively nurture the club's younger players, showcasing a commitment to their development both on and off the pitch.

“The one thing Leo is good at is teaching,” Beckham stated via the Rio Ferdinand Presents show, hosted by former Manchester United and England player Rio Ferdinand.

“He is good at teaching the young players that are coming in from the Academy. He doesn't make any player feel you know lower him. He's that player they will stay out on the training ground teaching the young kids, going to watch the Academy kids play. As we have seen over the years, he'll be the first in the gym and it'll be the last out the gym."

The revelation came as a surprise as it is something not usually associated with the Argentine but it is clear that he is a hard worker and nurturer behind the seen.

“I don't think you get to that level that he has without having that within you. You mentioned Cristiano (Ronaldo) and I've heard many people talk about him as a player and how much he works, he's been praised for many years but Leo for me he's up there as well,” explained the former Manchester United man.

Beckham emphasized Messi's exceptional work ethic, noting, “As we have seen over the years, he’ll be the first in the gym and the last out of the gym.”

This level of commitment Beckham notes that not only sets a high standard for younger players but also fosters a positive and supportive environment within the club.

Messi’s involvement in player development is a testament to his leadership and commitment to Miami's success since joining the club in July, 2023.

Since his debut the Argentine has scored 10 goals in the Leagues Cup and 18 in Major League Soccer (MLS), leading the team to a Supporter’s Shield title.

This season Miami seat pretty at the top of MLS log with 71 points in 33 matches played as they take on New England on Sunday, October 20 upon resumption of league action after the just concluded international break where the Argentine netted a hat-trick and assisted 2 in Argentina’s recent 6-0 demolition of Bolivia on Thursday.
