Djed Spence on his relationship with Antonio Conte
)
Djed Spence did not shy away from speaking about how former Tottenham head coach Antonio Conte almost destroyed his confidence completely.
He joined the club in 2022 but Conte disregarded him and would loan him to other clubs, something that made the 21-year-old then, question his abilities for a minute.
"It wasn’t a nice feeling. Especially as I was coming to the club on a high, I was confident, I was buzzing, had just won promotion,” he shared.
"Then it was like running into a brick wall. It shattered my confidence a bit, obviously, I’m young. It’s not nice to hear. I feel like whatever I did, that man wasn’t happy about anything.”
He added that being in the club was like walking on egg shells since he was unsure about the things he was doing and he constantly wanted to impress the coach.
He spent most of his time on loans to clubs like Rennes, Leeds United and Serie A club Genoa before finally making his debut in December, 2024.
