Kakamega Homeboyz coach Patrick Odhiambo has criticised the AFC Leopards player over his tendency to engage in brawls during matches.

Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Patrick Odhiambo has teared into Maxwell Otieno’s behaviour during their Ingo derby clash against AFC Leopards that ended 0-0 on Sunday.

The match was marked by tense and physical encounters, leading the centre referee to issue several yellow cards to players from both teams.

The nature of the game meant players occasionally let emotions get the better of them, and on one such occasion, Otieno found himself involved in an altercation with a couple of Homeboyz players, resulting in him throwing a blow at John Omondi.

This angered Odhiambo, who made his feelings known on the situation, criticising the referee for failing to make a more fair judgment on the situation.

“The game was good but there are some scenes that occurred during the match that the referee must learn to control,” a furious Odhiambo said.

“Like someone punching his fellow player today, and it is something they do every time. We spoke about that player before and he still came out and did it anyway.”

Odhiambo has castigated Otieno for being primitive, saying that fights are things of past times that he still instigates.

“These are things that used to happen a long time ago. That player should be ashamed of himself. He should play football fairly and not fight. Otherwise, he can switch to boxing.”

Meanwhile, Odhiambo has drawn the positives out of the game against Leopards, praising his two budding talents Glen Masava and Oliver Majak for showing maturity despite their youth since making their debuts for the club a week ago.

“The young players we are trying to introduce into the team are playing well. Oliver (Majak) played well. Glen (Masava) played well today.”

Odhiambo has nonetheless admitted a draw was a fair result considering both teams struggled to create clear-cut opportunities in the others’ halves.

"It was a challenging game. While we aimed to secure a victory, we found ourselves with minimal opportunities, much like our opponents," he remarked.
